On May 20, the Greene County Rams competed in the State Special Olympics track and field competition held in Ames. The weather was perfect for the 2,600 athletes, 1,200 coaches and 2,000 volunteers who came to support the events.
Each year Iowa State University adds more activities for the athletes to participate in while waiting for their events. There were balloon hats, face-painting, health checks, and more. The athletes loved it.
Greene County athletes earned the following medals:
- Ian Jensen, second for standing long jump and third for mini jav
- Kelly Martin, second for standing long jump
- Nick Walsh, second for men’s shot put
- Tosha Harvey, first for standing long jump
Attending to the support the athletes were Deb Rogers and Mona Weltz (coaches), Makelia Brown and Jade Milledge (volunteers), and Phillip Roberts (next year competitor), as well as parents and friends.
